What's the best playlist format to save in? (that can play on most players)

Hi,
What is the best playlist format I can save a playlist to be able to play on several players and not be limited to 1 or 2...??(what player should I use to save in this format...)
Cuz I need to save a playlist with around a 100 audio files to give to a friend...and i dont know what players he might have installed...
The safest would probably be a WMP playlist (like .wpl) but will that work on other media players than WMP? is it better than m3u or others..?

(To create it, I can open the files with WMP and save playlist as .m3u...right??)

I know WMP supports M3u but I don't know if it lets you write them. (It should though)

You can always use a free program like winamp, realplayer... to make a M3u.

it does. I use winamp, because when it rips a cd, it automatically make a playlist for that cd
