I currently have 512MB of memory on my computer. I have one free slot and want to add in more memory.

On the 512mb stick of memory there is a sticker stating PC2-4200U.

But when I ran CPU-Z and Sandra 2007 both software detect the 512MB stick of memory as PC2-4300U.

Which is it? 4200 or 4300?

Please help.

Thanks

I wouldnt see why there would be a sticker, stating it is 4200 though. I would say 4200.

Argh! I don't know...

What if I buy a PC2-4200 and install it with the 512. But if the 512 is indeed PC2-4300 would they both be compatible? What happens?

The 512mb stick looks like a normal green stick. Not a high performance stick.

Well, the slowest RAM in there, will make the others the same speed. They all run at the slowest speed..sorry im not that good at explaining..do you get me though?

You mean the Clock Rate - 533 MHz?

Lets say the new 1gb (667 mhz) and the 512 (533 mhz).

It will still be 1.5gb combined but running at 533 mhz?

Yeah..thats right. Download CPUZ, and see what it says there. Whatever it says there, is right.
