What is this item? (photos of unknown item are included)

I bought a used Bluray player with surround sound, and it came with an item I've never seen, and can't figure out the use of. The person who sold the set to me said she's not sure exactly what it is, but says it has something to do with the remote control.

I tried to attach two photos of it. Hopefully you will be able to view them.

Yup that's a Samsung IR blaster.

You may want to consider getting the model and serial number off that BR player and going to the manufacture's web site to see if you can download a manual for it so you can become familiar with everything it has

It also kind of looks like the microphone that came with my BR player/ht theater...it was for measuring audio so it could tweak itself. My Samsung DVD player came with an IR blaster but it was rectangular.
