what is the difference? content and application developmet tool?

can any body explain me what is the difference between and what are the example of:

content development tool????

application development tool???

i google and found many answers and it become very confusing as i found that some said sharepoint is crm some said its web development tool, someother point out that MS dynamics is CRM tool but few said its cms tool. its alot confusing.
plz explain

Im not an expert about content dev. but I looked it up and here is it simplified:

content development tools are used to create informational programs, like if you had a dictionary program, thats a content program.

application development tools are used to create all types of programs, from things like installation programs to things like itunes, or a web browser, or peer guardian.
