I did my first build and ended up installing the cpu wrong and fired up the computer a few times not knowing that there was anything wrong. The cpu didnt make any sounds but I was just wondering what the chances are that the thing is fryed cause I really dont wanna buy a new one along with the cpu.

how did ya install it wrong? It can only go in one way, so have ya bent some pins?

What ya mean by the heatsink messed up? Do ya mean ya never got a clean contact with the CPU? If thats the case then ya CPU could be fried.

yeah, I doubt you fried the mobo by putting the CPU in wrong.
There's a possibility but it seems like an incorrectly inserted CPU wouldn't create a working circuit. If you didn't totally mess up the pins, you can bend them back. I bent a few once and got it in right, but that was on a small socket P4. The newer processors with 50 bajillion pins would probably be harder to fix.
