Last week, my laptop played a DVD perfectly fine. Now, it doesnt recognize that a CD has even been entered into laptop.

Any reason why this would happen? Hardware damage? Software CDs work just fine.

It recognizes software CDs just fine. However, I've tried many DVDs - it doesnt recognize any of them, including ones that worked fine before.

Any ideas on the culprit?

Check the device manager for your video decoders and make sure your computer has updated codecs. If that's not the problem it may be an issue of a driver. You would probably have to contact the manufacturer for that.
