Hi Gurus,
I have HP Laptop Model # dv6426us. I get the undermentioned error. I do NOT have Vista installation CD. I have in the past
tried to push XP for DUAL BOOT and have installed Vista Dual Boot Manager as well.
Specific message on screen when I try to load Vista:
---------------
Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next".
3. Click "Repair your computer"
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: \Windows\System32\Drivers\LACAOICQ.SYS
Status: 0xc0000098
Info: Windows failed to load because a critical system driver is missing, or corrupt.
---------------
---------------
Specific message on screen when I try to load XP:
---------------
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system\hal.dll.
---------------
---------------
I tried to change the BOOT Options and gave CD/DVD Drive as FIRST Option. However, it just not goes to CD Drive. It is probably because of the BOOT Manager which intervenes and ask for Option Selection and by default goes to Notebook Hard Drive which in any case Fails.
I tried to search on the Net for a solution, but all solutions are asking to go to Control Panel or Programs etc. In my case the PC is NOT STARTING AT ALL so how do I go to Control Panel etc.
Now my Laptop appears to be dead.
PLEASE GUIDE ME
Many Thanks
Hug
