Virus? The interface is unknown

I've been using my laptop the same, running windows vista ultimate 32bit on a Asus F9-J. I have not downloaded anything suspicious recently.

I just booted the laptop up this morning attempted to login [correct password]
and it displays "Windows Security: The interface is unknown".

I also tried to use my fingerprint to login and it tells me no registered fingerprints so I think this might be a virus that wiped some files? Any ideas or should I reformat?

If u can't get on to your account i don't think there's much u can do. So i'd reformat

Hmmm.... weird.
After about, o i'd say 20 restarts [I wasn't going to give up!] it works perfectly fine again. I scanned with virus/spyware programs and nothing was found.

Should I repair windows and reinstall OS files to make sure it doesn't go haywire again?

if you can get it... i would do what ring suggested...

backup all ur files then reformat...sounds like a nasty piece of malware to me, but who knows

You know, you might want to check the hard drive connection. Maybe it's a bit loose.
