Video Card

No... I didn't actually throw it out the window... I sold it to a friend who had a 64 MB piece of crap. It was much worse than what he got, trust me.

how much is a new motherboard? my mom is paying for the card, which means i will be paying for the motherboard. can i install a new motherboard myself?

If your computer is a DELL or HP or Comcrap or an OEM Pre-built box like that, it is not ALWAYS as easy as getting a new Motherboard: Quite often the 20-pin Powersupply connection is specifically wired for the Powersupply and Motherboard to be a duet: you change one means you change both.

If that is the case, this is my recommendation:
1. Get a decent case with a 350W+ Power supply-

2. Get a better card than a 5200. Take JamXX's advice - its not worth it. Save up, or take out a loan from your mom or something. If you can't afford a 6600GT ($200) even a 5700LE is better (and quite overclockable)

3. If you have doubts on your ability to install a motherboard, have a friend help you do it (one who has done it before), or better yet- have it professionally installed. More than likely there is a comp store that will install a new motherboard and vid card and hook everything up right and only charge a minimal fee.

Good Luck
