Maybe it was the quality of the silicon? Maybe they're using silicate now?
If you had done some research when the venice cores first came out, you would have read that both the venices and SDs use a different silicon architecture thus improving the overclockability by quite a bit........I forgot the exact name they used for the way the silicon was being used, but it does infact have to do with it's architecture being changed.

As far as venices running hotter than winnies, I havent really heard too much about this, but considering the venices are hitting 2.8-3GHz with either insane air solutions or decent water solutions I'd say I can tolerate a couple degrees hotter for the trade in OC'ing
