So today I have brought a new Belkin USB Hub as my USB 2.0 port in my laptop has died and only my USB 3.0 works. I need to be able to use my cooling pad, Wireless Logitech mouse and external HDD, When I plug the the HDD in it makes a clicking sound, Windows detects it but then disappears. It works just fine plugged straight into the laptop. The USB hub has a AC adapter to give it more power but I am still having issues. Please help urgently as I am really annoyed and need to be able to complete my class work..

After it dissapears, open up device manager>>find your hhd in the USB device and uninstall it. Then unplug your hhd and plug it back into the hub and let it reinstall itself.

See if that helps.

I haven't found anything on the current draw per port so in my book that means it's pretty wimpy. Could be the cooler is sucking out most of the current and there isn't enough to support the external drive.
Plug the ext HDD in with out the cooler to test that. Coolers are high current draw.
