Upgrading - Good Bye Xmas Money

Hi everyone. I'm new here...
I have all my money accounted for and I'm about to "checkout". I am really scared to buy these things because I'm not positive that they will work with my system, and that they are not the best bang for my buck. I was hoping I could post a list of the things I'm buying, along with my budget, and my current computer specs for you all to look over and give me advice on. I would be extremely grateful! Here we go:

Current computer Specs:

ASUS K8N Platinum nForce(2?) Mobo
Windows XP Home
AMD Anthlon64 3500+ Processor
1 gig DDR (2 X 512 Corsair DDR400mhz (3200))
ATI Radeon x850 Platinum AGP 256mb
No drives =***(
40 gig hardrive thats refurbished and probably stolen..
60 gig hardrive thats dying and skips a lot...
Big white goofy case
19' Samsung LCD

Okay. So you see, I need a new hardrive very badly, and I really need a Drive that plays DVDs and CDs. Plus, I decided to upgrade to 2 gigs of ram and get a new case. Here is what I have come up with on my grand total budget of...

Are these good items? Will they be compatible with my motherboard? Am I missing something?
