Upgrade from win xp sp1 to sp2?

I have this old computer (well kind of old) that has windows xp sp1 on it. I keep getting prompted to install windows xp sp2. I have one question. Does installing this format your hard drive and reinstall windows? or does it simply upgrade. I ask this because i only have a 512mb flash drive so i can't back up that much stuff.

It does not reformat. It totally upgrades everything. You get better security, more options, etc.

It has no effects on your system at all few s patches and other XP things.
No need to panic.

ok thanks. Ill probably wait to install it though until i get more ram. This computer says it came with xp on it but it only has 128mb. It's pretty slow LOL
