I have the messenger that comes along with windows xp, I tried uninstaling it but it seems that there is no uninstall option. Is it safe to delete the fMessenger folder without uninstaling?

There is a better way:

Click Start->Run and paste in this command

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

That should do it for you :)

Or the other way to do it:

Edit c:\windows\inf\sysoc.inf

From there, MSN messenger should be fairly easy to locate (msmgs), and delete the 'hide' variable.

Then you can uninstall it from the Add/Remove programs through the CP.

Heh, covinient, thanks loads :)

Any way I can deleat other usleless stuff in XP, like Movie Maker and Net Meeting?

Go into sysoc.inf and see what else you can unhide in Add/Remove Programs... though some are linked to the system directly and cannot be removed no matter what.

Though I've never successfully uninstalled either of the programs above. :p

ne one watch the screensavers? They did this not to long ago, all u have to do to stop messenger from poping up is go to the program files folder an change the folder named "messenger" to somehting else. no registy hacks / weird file tweaking requiered.

About Windows Messenger:

Don't forget to re-add the hide variable in the sysoc.inf after uninstalling, if you wish to install an updated copy. Otherwise, you're stuck with it unless you make a manual deletion or do the above.

This works for me everytime I'm working on a client PC...try it.
