When I was about to burn a DVD from my Sony DVD-Rom 16x to a Sony DVD-RW drive, I noticed that my DVD-Rom was no longer detected by my computer. I've checked the wiring and it is not loose. I had it working for 3-4 years now and just today it began to malfunction. I also noticed the DVD-Rom light is always on.

Are there any way to tell if it is the wiring or should I just buy a new DVD-Rom drive? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Did you recently mess for the IDE cabling? Can it be seen in the bios?

What were you doing the last time it worked?

check BIOS to make sure it is properly hook up or if it is damage or not.

then boot in Windows, check device to see if it is properly installed and configed in the OS

This is kinda like the time my hhd light was always on. I fixed it by mistake when moving the hard drive. I unplugged the ide cable then re-plugged it back in. So I suggest turning off your PC, unplugging the ide and replugging it back in. then turn it back on, see what it does.

My problem is similar. Unplugging and plugging in seems to work for awhile. Sometimes it'll function, sometimes it won't. :-(
