Ok guys lets start off with my system specs:

Systemax Desktop PC
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+
2.41 GHz
2 MB of Ram
Windows XP Professional
Sound Blaster Audigy Sound Card
Nvidia 7600 GT
250 GB Hard Drive
160 GB Hard Drive
80 GB Hard Drive

The ingame Graphic settings are set as follows:
resolution of 800x600
Texture settings at low
shadow quality set low
draw distance set at 15

With these current settings I am averaging 10 to 15 fps. I get frame rate hits when when I'm in a heavily populated areas. But other than that I can play the game. I'd like to be able to play the game at a higher resolution like say, 1024 x 768 or 1280 x 1024. I'd also like the graphic settings to be increased a little bit so that way I can enjoy a little more detail but still maintain smooth. At first I thought maybe a new graphics card is in order but the more I think about it the more I believe I need a new Processor.

The question is which processor should I get thats not expensive? Currently my computer handle games such as Call of Duty 4, Mirrors Edge, Crysis: Warhead, Transformers The Game and Resident Evil 4. All of which I can play at 1280 x 1024 with graphics settings set to medium or high and have really good frame rates and no lag. I thought about maybe trying to overclock the processor that I have but for one, I don't know how to do it and two, if I do it wrong it may screw up my computer or worse.

I'm gonna have some extra money here pretty soon but I just don't know what kind of processor I should get.

That won't run too well. you need a decent video card to run it. Mine even has trouble running it at times.

Also, what's with the date of this post for me it says this thread was created dec31 2001

cpu should be fine my friend has an x2 4200 but has a 9800gtx and he's running at quite high settings.

Rockstar even stated that the game was meant for "future" gaming PC's...jerks LOL.

A buddy of mine has a 4200 X2 as well, with an 8800GTS and he's running pretty well too, I would say 25-30FPS or so with decent settings.

lol why go with a 7900? screw that :) if anything if your budget is under 100 dollars, you could by a radeon 4670, on my computer upstairs im playing gta iv on a 4670, medium/max settings, and 1400x1050 res.

Umm Spec, where did I suggest that he should get a 7900? I only posted the minimum specifications and told him that he needs a better video card.

GTA IV will only run around medium settings on the PC in my sig.. 1440x900 resolution... I think I'm being held back by my processor, I'm not sure.
