Trying to clean up my laptop and reformat

Was trying to find out if I could use my XP-Home on my laptop that my parents handed down to me. All I find is about using a recovery disk or the manufacture software that came with the laptop which I don't want to use.

I see so many programs running and operating everything to "help" the computer but it seems counter productive to have all this garbage.

1. Can I use my XP Home to reinstall this laptop and wipe all this crap off?

2. If I can is there any software I should use to keep my laptop from overheating etc etc? IE any programs that are on the laptop that should be on it for a reason.

Thanks a lot!

You should be able to reformat using the OS disc as long as you have the key to it. U most likely will lose your drivers and will have to search them on the website.

What I'm wondering about though is how important are the drivers? 90% of it seems like a bunch of garbage to flood my computer with toshiba junk.

3 programs for the wireless card...
"support program" called software suite that has no information reguarding what it is or does..
Over 15 Toshiba installed programs

etc etc
