I need some help trying to find free utilities that will let me back up my dvd collection.

With my windows machine, I use anyDVD and nero or DVDshrink and nero.

I'm looking for something similar to use on a mac that will also compress dual layer dvd's to 4.7GB for use on a single layer disc.

tried searching the net and couldn't find any good products.

any help is appreciated

thanks in advance

i downloaded handbrake but haven't had a chance to try it yet.

My girlfriend (it's actually her computer) tried playing with it, but didn't have much luck and said it was VERY slow.

I'll have to play with it more.

Also, it will have to work on protected dvd discs or work in conjunction with another program that will break the protection.

anyone have any ideas?

Every DVD ripping utility is going to be slow.
What CPU does it have? that makes a huge difference.

The fact is that DVD's are not made so they can be backed up like this.

it has an intel chip, i believe its a 2.13ghz core 2 duo with 2gb of ram and the intel graphic chipset.

not stellar performance, but run photoshop and most other programs really well.

after digging around on handbrakes website, it looks like they offer, or at least name, a program/plug-in that will let you break the css.

so this might be my best bet.

again i fanyone knows of other options please share. It was so easy on my pc, and since it's been broken I've been stuck with the mac. don't get me wrong i love the mac os and such, but some things are just easier for me on a pc
