Hey
I got home from a great holiday to find my laptop is b******* beyond (easy) repair. Heres the rap

It starts up (fair enuff) and gets to the bit where it says
Microsoft XP Home editition
and theres the little bar with the bits flying across, signifying loading.

At which point it just turns off and re-starts. There is no way to get to a windows interface. Not safe mode, not anything. The only thing I can do is to load MS DOS from a CD that is designed to completely re-load windows (its not an actual windows CD)

Now heres what I want:
I know how to fix it: just format it and re-install windows.
BUT before I can do that, I need to copy all my stuff to another computer. I mean NEED to do that, it has all my work, programming, music etc etc. As I cant get to a GUI interface, this makes it rather difficult. It is a laptop and I am thinking of removing the hard drive and putting it in the other (desktop) computer, if there are any DOS experts that can tell me how to copy all my important data to a removable hard drive (well, my ipod) via the DOS interface (believe me, I've tried everything, safe mode just doesnt work). Or I need to know if it is possible to plug my laptop hard drive into the other computer.

thanks in advance
