I've got a video on a CD of a music gig. It's a mpeg, I think. Try as I may, I can't get screencaps from it. I've tried downloading several trial programs which claim to do the job; they seem to work, and seem to save the stills as jpegs, but only while the vid is in pause mode. As soon as I take the CD out of the drive, HEY PRESTO the jpeg turns black. Is there some codec I haven't got? A straightforward 'Print Screen' command through Windows has exactly the same effect. It's driving me nuts!!!!!!

The problem with the screencaps seems to lie in the fact that whoever transferred the original video made it into ASF. Having downloaded Virtualdub, it wouldn't recognise the format. So I then downloaded a free ASF to MPEG converter. This was fine, except the trial version left a bloody great watermark across the frame. Just for that, I won't stump up and buy it. I think I'll take up art classes and draw the **** images - it'll be quicker...!!
