Total N00B to linux...Help!

I tried LinSpire linux, but it's a Live CD...


Since there are so many Linux versions, could somebody recommend a version of Linux that is completely free (no money needed), and has a really easy-to-use install manager?

Linspire had an excellent install manager, but you had to pay for it. Is there a Linux version that is free and has an install manager?

On Linspire, it had a program that allowed you do download a program (Firefox, Media Player, etc) and automatically install it.

Is there something like that, and free?

The Linspire one was a free trial, but i want free completely.



Or even if there was a tutorial with installing programs, because it seems too difficult for me (i'm such a n00b right now)

Any of the Debian based distros have this (Debian, Ubuntu Xandros, etc.). It's called APT. (K)(X)Ubuntu come with a graphic frontend for APT by default but I don't know about the others.

Debian does too now, well etch and sid do. WhenTF is etch getting released??

It's SUPPOSED to be stable by the end of this year or the beginning of next one. But Debian loves to toss the schedule out the window if things aren't perfect enough for them, so don't hold your breath.

Well, I use sid either way so it doesn't really effect me. Just seems like it's been too long since sarge was released.

LOL yeah but that's nothing...it was about a month less than three years between the releases Woody and Sarge.
