I was going to update my comp by configuring one on cyberpowersystems.com but after realizing how much i "want" (it's no longer "need"), i have come to the conclusion that i should build it.
So here are a combination of parts from both new egg, tiger direct, and xoxide...

Maxtor / 200GB / 7200 / 8MB / SATA-150 / OEM / Hard Drive- $125

AMD Athlon 64 3500+ / 512KB Cache / 2000 MHz FSB / Socket 939 / Processor with Fan- $270

DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard- $135

eVGA 256-P2-N376-AX Geforce 6800GT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI-Express x16 Video Card - $339

CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit System Memory - $77

Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS PCI Sound Card- $86

PRICE= $1245

i think i will also buy windows xp pro for $155
Any suggestions?

Sounds good except for your case and RAM.

The case looks great, but is flimsy and the PSU is junk. Makes a good doorstop, though. Look at an Antec case w/PSU, a ThermalTake case w/PSU, or at getting a PSU by either one of them.

The RAM should work, but if you plan on overclocking, you need better quality RAM.

Also, check prices with http://www.zipzoomfly.com before you buy. Free shipping can really make a difference. Look at http://www.mwave.com as well.

Flimsy as in what the reviews and remarks say. Seems to be on the rickety side.

The PSU is junk because it is a cheapo. It will either crap out on you, be DOA, or take out some or all of your hardware when it pops. A PSU is not a place to cut corners.

Actually, the case will work. Once it is buttoned up it's not going to fall apart. It's just thin and not very solid. Mainly flash.

If you really want the case, get it. But go ahead and get a decent PSU when you do, and swap them out before you build your system.

1.) MGE isn't a good brand of cases, but i guess it'll work
2.) you need a power supply for your computer, the one that comes with cases are all crap; look into the OCZ modstream 520W or the fortron blue storm 500W for good and cheap (around $100) solutions
3.) that corsair value ram is crap, it'll screw you over (and maybe even the hard drives); go for a gig of twinmos ram ($86 or 87 or newegg)
4.) seagate//WD >> maxtor
5.) you don't need that sound card; the DFI board already comes with sound and its quality is equal to that of the creative card you listed

got it, thanx a lot for the help diabloII, trotter...
i have one question, what is the PFC for the PSU and what does it mean if it says no, yes, passive, active, etc?

passive= uses a filter at the AC input to correct poor power factor
active= most efficient

yes/passive/active=good
no=bad
