Hello all, I'm trying to upgrade my ram from 1 GB to 3GB's, the original thats in there now is a 1 GB DDR PC400 128x16. The 2 1GB ram sticks I bought are 128x8 and when I put them in, I get a message at startup about not seeing the files on the HDD then another message comes up that starts to recover something in the BIOS and when thats finished it just keeps rebooting and i get the same thing over and over. I tried just the new ram sticks but get the same rebooting. I'm assuming that its the difference between the 128x16 and the 128x8 but is there any way around this so it will see both?? I checked in the BIOS but the MB automatically sees the ram and I cannot change anything in there...Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Let me get this straight: you tried running both (the 128x16 and the 128x8) and nothing worked. Then you tried just the new 128x8, but nothing works still. However, things work when you boot only with the 128x16?

To be quite honest with you, I don't know exactly what 128x16 and 128x8 mean. I started getting into computers as DDR was being phased out. Hopefully, some other members can chime in with better help. I'll search Google to learn about these numbers so I can better help you though.

Re: Trying to upgrade ram

My system:
MB-Gigabyte k8u-939
Graphics card-Nvidia FX 5200
Ram- 1 GB DDR PC 3200 400mhz 128x16
OS-Linux ubuntu 9.10
HD-120GB IDE WD

JogaBonito1502, Yes, the 2 ram sticks that i bought will not work. The physycal difference I noticed is that with the 128x16, there are 8 chips on both sides of the ram stick (16 all together) and only 8 chips on the one side. Other than that they are both DDR PC3200 400mhz 1 GB sticks (184 pin)

Thanks JogaBonito1502 for your response. I was hoping not to have to return them but i guess I have to. Again, thanks for your help
