I am doing a film noir for a class project! I am using a very nice canon xha1 semi pro model and I was wondering, should I film in black and white? Or should I film in color and edit it to black and white post production?

Now this is my 3rd major class project (20min movie) I will do so I am proficient with the camera!

Color vs. black and white probably has a bit to do with the setting or mood of the film. What kind of movie will it be?

Isn't Film Noir by definition B&W?

Unless you want to go avant garde and do a monochrome in a different color...

At any rate, I see no reason for using color film if you don't intend on using any color.

I'd shoot in color, then change it to B&W... never know when some of the color footage might come in handy, and if you decide to do some special color effects (such as spots of red or blue), then the color source-video might be easier to use than trying to colorize monochrome source.
