Ok, just to state my mind cahnges alot so this may not be the outcome, but i'm going to try to stick with this. Here's what i have to far.

Opteron 144

Gigabyte Nforce 3 board

CORSAIR Valueselect RAM

Rosewill TU-155 case

I've decided to just reuse my current video card and sound card and do a complete new build once i have the money and a job.
I know the Nforce 3 is kinda old but unless someone can find an Nforce 4 thats almost identical and around the same price i'm sticking with it.

I plan on overclocking and from what i've read the board will offer what i need to do so, but i need recamendation on a good aftermarket (air) cooler just to be safe when i do so.

First of all, get a DFI Lanparty UT NF4 Ultra-d instead. Thats like a god of OCin mobo. I dont think that Gigabyte will support the opteron since its Hypertransport is 800mhz and the Opty is 1000mhz.

Some good air coolers are: Scythe Ninja, Scythe Cool Miner, Thermaltake Big Typhoon, Tuniq Tower (i recommend the tuniq tower. Everyone on XS who benches there with extreme OCin w/ air use it. Only problem..... hard to find.) but all those coolers are good. There may be more like some from Zalman, just those were off the top of my head.

I wasn't planning on going that high for a motherboard, (It's hard just to get the money for the CPU at this point), plus i donm't need something that will give me options i don't understand just something that will let me hit above 2.0GHz.

ok, maybe i can simplify this a little bit better, can you reccomend a good 4x/8x AGP motherboard under $100 the will let me hit above 2.0GHz

or

am i gonna have to upgrade to PCI-e (which wasn't planned at this point)

note: I prefer Nforce

found this should it work?

The reveiws are mixed so i'm a bit weery on this one

you know whats sad i was originally looking at that board (hmm...) if you can reccomend a cheap video card that can run games such as AOEIII or DoW and CS:S (Nvidia or ATI) untill i can get the money to go to something like a 7600GS/T and it doesn't have to run them at the highest settings (if it can run them clost to what my 6600GT does i would be happy for now

Well i have a 6600GT AGP right now and it runs CS:S really well (about 60-70 fps). I dont kno to much when it comes to low-end video cards.

IF you are only going to OC that opteron to like 2 ghz you might as well go with a regular athlon 64 for cheaper with higher clocks.

H**L NO, my mom has like a 3500+ Athlon 64 (939) and it's a peice of crap in my opinion.

I'm going with the Opty 144 cause from what i've heard it can out preform some Athlon 64, and i only meant by the overclocking thing is that if the board will let me hit atleast 2.0GHz, i will probably go higher
