thermal paste on socket

I have thermal paste on a 754 socket how can I get it off and do I need to?

Yes you need to get it completely cleaned off. Thermal paste is conductive and can cause damage to a CPU and or mother board. Or both. As for getting it off, large amounts of pure alcohol. No watered down junk.

I've got most of the paste off the socket using turpentine did'ent have any alchohol except my bottle of rum liquer and I'me not using that. I'll give it another clean tomorrow hope I have done no damage to the m/board by keep removing the heat sink, bloody awkward thing to put on and remove.

Been told turpentine no good. Could'ent get any alcohol so I've recleaned using surgical spirits. I no need help with connecting the LED leads to the correct pin. Thanks for the help so far.

If it doesn't have the other junk in it, it'll do just fine.
