suspend issues on Toshiba Mini NB305 netbook running linux

I was given a Toshiba Mini NB305 netbook by a coworker and decided to install ubuntu on it and it works great other than one major issue. When I close the lid and it goes into suspend or when I click power suspend it goes into suspend but when I try to resume it the screen never comes back on. It lights up but nothing comes on the screen and I don't get any response from the system in any way. I have tried ubuntu 18.04, linux mint 19, xubuntu 18.04, lubuntu 18.04 and all give the same result
