I was going to upgrade from 2 very out dated 74 gb maxtor ide 5400rpm HD drives to a WD raptor X 150gb sata 10,000 rpm.
The drive costs about $180. Would this be the best upgrade for the money HD wise?

I would say no, no a hundred times. You could get a 500GB that runs almost as fast for $100

*Edit* ie the western digital caviar

they're having trouble producing them, 7 out of 10 pass the test to be adequate to be sold, but they're pretty darn fast don't get me wrong
so don't worry....you won't get a bad one
500gb and lower seagate is the way to go, until the 750gb 7200.11 comes out
i'm not a big fan of WD as they OVERALL make slightly less quality drives

I dunno, add in the maxtor drives that now technically belong to seagate and i bet WD numbers look pretty good :p My only issue with seagates has been that they get so freaking hot.
