Success at school = Success in life ?

It isn't always true that going to collage can make you more successful in life. Having an ability to perform hard work for long periods of time can also give you a great life, while these people that go to collage for a few years can EASILY be over qualified for some jobs that they want and end up having to get a cheap job...

while i agree with this 100%, before i make my point i will add to yours in some way.

Every now and then i hear some "tard" rich guy on the radio (rush) or on tv say everyone should go to college and become a doctor or lawyer....I just wish i was on the other line or in front of this man to let him know that not everyone can be a doctor or lawyer even if they did study for it. There has got to be people who will do the lesser jobs, because if there was nobody to take those lesser jobs, there would not be hospitals or courtrooms to even walk in. We need people to have these lower end jobs, our country, our world depends on it.

but now for my point, if more and more people did go to higher education, wheather it be college or tech school or other forms of higher ed. it would be more up to the individuals on what type of job they want to go with, they would not just be limited to working at the local subway or the local factory making crayons or what not.

Many many, way too many kids do not realize what lies ahead, and i was one of those kids 15 years ago. They dont want to go to college, they dont want to get more education....until its too late and they are out on their own trying to make ends meet.

I wanted to get me a degree in computer science for the longest time when in my late teens, but didnt really want it bad enough, I did not go on to college, I didnt even apply for one. I thought I would be just as happy working for the local companies/factories, and for a few years i was, got to party when i wanted and do what ever, but things changed.
Money became tighter and now is when i wish i had some sort of degree to change the situation. Because I know there is very little chance of me landing a job that that pays over 50 grand a year with only a high school diploma. Especially in these horrid economic times.

Basically the same problem I had.

I hated high school with a passion, the only thing I cared about was making it to Friday and Saturday nights so I could drink my pants off. I only maintained in school so I basically made B's and didn't show up half the time cause I didn't care. I wasn't worried about scholarships or any of that cause I just knew that I'd never end up getting one anyway and that college wouldn't be expensive, cause everyone goes.

I graduated early and split out, at the time I was a managing two stores and made pretty decent money for a high school student. Soon as I got out I enrolled in college for a business/computer degree. I went for about a month and realised I couldn't afford it anymore. There was just no way.

The college, and yes it was the closest, was sixty miles from my parents house. I had to drive that far, then go to work right after, close the store at night and drive home. This was a total of 140 miles a day. I had to fill up every two days in my truck which got 16 MPG downhill. So finally after I got behind on my truck and bills I had to quit and find a real job that paid decent. So I landed a job making 3500 a week, more money than I could make in 3 months. It was 90+ hours a week and after it was over I went to another one making about the same. Eventually I went on to saving up a very nice bankroll.

But did I go to college? No, I was too ignorant and finally the jobs started to slow down and then eventually stop. I had all this money in the bank and just kept on spending cause I was used to it. And after 6 months without working I was beggining to sweat it.

Now, I work maybe two weeks out of a month, making hardly anything and have to travel. When I could of just went to school, got a degree by now and be working at LEAST a steady job. Now I can't go out on weekends, my friends are all going to the casino's, movies, bars, vacations and I always get invites... but I know that I can't afford to go because I am too worried about keeping food in our mouths and a house to live in.

From my experience, go with a steady job, there is nothing in the world better than job security. I would take a major pay cut just to have a job I know that won't slip out from under me and go belly up.

For GOD's sake, get that piece of paper. You have to have it.

As far as I can tell, doing well in school will never hurt. I could have graduated a year early from High School as I had all my required credits and then some, but my plans for college involve science so I stayed in high school to get physics and calculus under my belt. I'm fairly certain this will help me, not only getting into a college, but knowledge-wise aswell.

So I guess my point is, stay in school! lol. It just seems more logical to continue your education, and, in most cases, its probably the best choice.
