Hey guys, im moving to the uk for school, and im needin to buy a laptop.
What stores specialize in electronics/computers in the uk?

PC World is the obvious computer-only biggie, then there's places like Currys and Comet that do most electrical bits from computers to fridges. It pays to look around though, loads of places sell them now and they're not always cheapest in the specialised stores! Some supermarkets have recently taken to selling them rather cheaply (though you're not going to get a performance machine from the likes of ASDA!)

If you're into buying online more than visiting somewhere, then ebuyer can be quite cheap (though I usually get components from here more than assembled machines) and I've used dabs.com and overclockers.co.uk in the past and been impressed. Scan (scan.co.uk) is another big online one you could look at.

or do you think it would be cheaper to buy the computer in canada?
I was browsing the pcworld uk site, and it seemed more expensive that computers here

Personally I think this would be the better option. PCWorld aren't always the cheapest so perhaps look around on some of the other sites I mentioned to check, but it'll probably be cheaper in Canada if nothing else just because the pound is so awful in currency value at the moment!

eww personally i steer well clear of pc world in all of my experiences in that shop i have been dissapointed at the levels of customer service in there . The staff have absoloutly no clue at all about computers (one member of staff told me that defragmenting your hard disk was not a good idea because it deletes tiny bits of data from them ) and if you shop in there stores they also try and hard sell extended warrenties and anti virus and backup software like norton and mcafee which IMO arent the best out there for the money .And then god forbid you buy a computer from pc world and it goes wrong because dealing with the in house technical team the "tech guys " is like pulling teeth
Then if your an inexperienced buyer i also reccomend steering clear of the likes of comet and curries , understandably the staff there are just as technically inept as those from pc world and in the case of curries being owned by the same group as pc world the prices are not drastically different in most cases the same .

I usually price check at a combination of shops in the uk and then buy from the cheapest
if your looking for a prebuilt have you trtied the dell uk website because i have a dell laptop and its been a good laptop and my parents own a dell desktop which has also been no problems to us
Microdirect -http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home always had good experiences with these guys most of the time i go down to their showroom because both their showroom and warehouse is in my city . their staff actually know a thing or two about computers too even though they might not have the certifications the tech guys have they definatly have the knowledge
aria technology - http://www.aria.co.uk/ another retailer who have a showroom in my city so i usually go to the showroom but ive also had good experiences ordering online when theyve had really good super specials on
E buyer -http://www.ebuyer.com/ ordered online quite a few times from these guys always had quick delivery even using 5 day supersaver delivery where the orders usually arrives for me within 2 or 3 days cant fault their telephone support either usually have the best prices around but have to factor in shipping costs
Morgans computers - http://www.morgancomputers.co.uk/ these sell a lot of reworked or factory reconditioned computers check the warrenty you get but you always save a great deal off the origonal price of the machine and you are still protected by the same consumer rights if anything goes wrong regardless of if its reworked or not

Overclockers uk - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/ i personally have never dealt with these as i have usually found them more expensive than all of the alternatives but i have a friend who buys everything computer related from them from them simply because he values their customer support and he dosent mind paying that little bit extra for piece of mind
