SSD booting option (Laptop)

I want to know if it's possible to put an SSD express card and boot the computer straight from there, or do I have to upgrade it internally. And if that's not possible, is it better to upgrade it to a large capacity for storage, or a small one just for booting up faster?

What most people do is get a small SSD for the OS and then a larger drive for storage. Is your laptop compatible with multiple hard drives?

I haven't gotten the laptop yet. I want to know before I get it, to see if I can save that 400 dollars. It's the alienware M17x, so I think so.

15" and I'd have to upgrade it manually. Ya it's cheaper I agree, but I'm set on the new M17x, especially since they just upgraded to the i7. It's also gorgeous. But I do agree, excellent specs for the price. If there's a 17" you know of, let me know.
