Speed up your torrents

Port Forwarding
Yes you will need to port forward a range of port if you are uploading; I won't go into much detail since this is a simple solution. Go to www.portforward.com select the bittorrent application and select your router.

The downside to this is that it will only work for one client unless you change the default port for the second client in your network. This leads me to the solution on the bottom.

Port Triggering
The same as Port Forwarding but works a little differently. When a certain port is trigger the router will open that port for that application for all computers on the network. So if you have two computers or more using bittorrent, using port triggering is easy than port forwarding to different computer and changing default ports. http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_triggering/routerindex.htm

IÂ’ll try to find more information. Remember the ISP list, firewall issue, the TCP/IP limit, your computer and router all contribute to your speed.

Internet Service Provider
Some ISP will limit your download and upload speed especially when it comes to p2p sharing. Depending on your ISP there isnÂ’t much you can do but complain about it or move to another service. There are a couple of solutions. Most ISP understands that bit torrent counts for almost 1/3 of Internet traffic so they try to limit or block the service. They will block the default port for most bit torrent client, so changing it to something else will help (for example changing the client default port to 1720 has help many broadband users). Most ISP had already caught on and instead they block and limit files with the torrent extension. You can ask the host to change the extension. You can also switch to another client like uTorrent or Azureus which has the feature for encryption to by pass ISP that do traffic shaping.

A list of ISP that limit or block BT. The information came from azureus client.
