Shoutbox/IRC

Why doesn't this place have a Shoutbox or IRC channel? I've always found that a shoutbox is a good place to chit 'n' chat with the residents.

We've talked about this before, we did it before, and hardly anybody came on.. so the idea died off

But with the new upgrades with the Friends list and comments on Profiles, we kind of have it now

As Vernong said with the way the profiles are setup now you can use that as a chat system. It is hard enough for us to Moderate the site let alone have a Mod on at all times to watch the Shoutbox and IRC.

i heard that we used to have one. But like mak said it would be hard for mods to be on there a lot and things would probably fly off the handle.

Imagine the spammers on that!! Even if they are banned they could spam us all on that D: Imagine the issues!

Exactly. That is also the main reason we haven't set up a RSS feed, as well.

Shoutbox's usually don't need much moderation, they're there for members to talk and have fun.

You could have "Shoutbox Moderators" the trustable members of the site, all have the powers to ban/prune the shoutbox.

Or, you could have the IRC channel sent to users that have surpassed the 100 post mark.

Shoutbox would still need moderation, if a spammer got on there or a user dispute got out of hand it would get ugly fast.

IRC is worrying to moderators a Spamer could take advantage of that very easy.

When we get drive by spammers at least 5 times a day how would we not need Moderation of a shoutbox? Come one this site has at least 100 visitors on it at all times. Not to mention the number of members and hidden members.

IRC would have to be Moderated cause without a Mod there the fights that break out in threads would happen in real time.

This has all been discussed before. There is no way to safely do it and to prevent violation of our forum rules on the shoutbox in real time. Same for IRC. It just wouldnt happen. We cant get people to stop violating the Swear rule. How would we prevent that in IRC or a shoutbox? In real time as to not offend a visitor or member? What about spam links posted?

There is no way to actively stop it. We wouldnt put members as Moderators cause we have a set of Mods already. Which our job is already tough enough trying to keep you folks in line.
