» Tell the press about your site.
» Publicize your site to everyone with whom you communicate.
» Submit your site to various web directories and reference sites.

Make sure you add your site and other extensions of its url to google by going to:
http://google.com/addurl

I've heard that newsletters don't give you the juice like they use to. Also, Google is telling us not to put links in the body of a newsletter and only the footer and header. Has anyone heard this as well?

Newsletters really have nothing to do with page rank, it can just drive traffic to your website which may, or may not, bring up your page rank. Some other things on the list, like giving away content, doesnt necessarily bring up page rank, but just drives traffic back to the website. Also, noone really uses tags anymore, it's all about MetaData descriptions for each webpage.

The biggest advice about SEO is to signup for Google Analytics and Google Webmaster to track how your website is doing and best of all....Its free!!

The only factor that contributes to pagerank is links that pass linkjuice.
