running my laptop to hades!!!!

i was wondering if heat from over running a laptop could damage hardware... my reason for asking is that i believe that was the cause of death for my first laptop.. and this laptop is starting to run very hot..( even if i reformat it and run it without heavy processes ) and its starting to reboot randomly just as my other one did before it got so bad i had to return it...
input would be greatly appreciated

(ps.. never buying an averatec laptop again...)
