My computer has begun to refuse to complete the boot up sequence. It will offer me the Windows repair or Start Windows normally options. In repair it goes to the Start Windows screen and then goes dark.
In 'Normal' it gets to Start Windows and then hangs.

I can't now get the F8 start up options

Can anyone please help me cure whatever is wrong? Thanks. Now thinking of buying an Apple for goodness sake! :O)

OS is Windows 7
500gb HDD
An ASUS motherboard ******** 5K can't get the other ID part)

Any help will be gratefully received.

I put a stick of ram that my laptop didnt support in it and it did that. try some different sticks of ram.

Put the OS install DVD in and use the repair option. It usually works.

Windows Vista & 7 do not have a repair option anymore. The procedure is a little more involved, but it does work for cases of no-boot.

The new process is named bootrec and you can find more info here:
How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows

I've used it on everything from Windows Server 2008 to Windows 7 and it does a fantastic job without the hassle of running a reinstall (the only other option on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 OS)
