Recovering Hard Drive Files

A friend of mine needs to recover some files in his older hard drive. I was wondering if it possible to hook up that hard drive onto my own computer as a temporary slave drive so I can extract the files more efficently onto my own computer.

The hard drive I'm recovering myself has windows ME edition on it, but it's system startup itself is defective and it can't login to windows, (software problem). His hard drive is a Seagate and I have a Western Digital. Will adding another hard drive temporarily to salvage the files cause conficts between both servers? Thanks for any response.

On the end of the drive where the cable and power connects, there is a jumper or two that are used to configure the drive to master, slave and cable select. Usually there is a diagram on the drive's label or it can be found on the manufacturer's website.
