Re-Installing Win98 over Win XP??

I want to know if it is possible to put Windoes 98 back over Windows XP?? My computer has slowed down alsomst to a stop since I loaded XP and my CD-R isn't compatible unless I go out and buy new software, ect.... just not happy with the whole XP experience BUT I am scared to re-load Win 98...ANY SUGGESTIONS?

microsft doesn't like you going backwards for some stupid reason... sorry
