Is the only thing with ram compatibility is the pins? like if the memory chip is 184 pin and thats what my processor takes, is that what i need? are their any other compatibility isseus besides pin?

also thats the ram im looking into getting. Looking for comments about its timings and how it peforms. This will bring me up to 1 gig of ram, just wondering what you guys think of it.

well your motherboard will be able to support certain types of memory (ddr, SD etc) but it will also support certain kinds of speeds etc (pc 3200 etc), could u please tell me what your motherboard is and i will give u the low down.

To get the ideal RAM for you system is a to select one which matches your bus speed. When you see PC2100 it may not mean much to you, but this type of RAM has a maximum frequency of 266 Mhz. So if your motherboard's bus speed is 266 Mhz, you got the ideal RAM for your system. If you put a faster, like a PC3200 which has a frequency of 400 Mhz, your system won't go any faster::::unless you plan to overclock you bus speed (but that is not always advisable).
Also, you motherboard will only take one or maybe two types of RAM, and you would know this by seeing that the physical slot is different.
Go to this website for more info:

You will have all the information you need.

Check and see what your MOBO supports speed wise like Zero said. It all varies. It might be RDRAM on an older Intel board.... That stuff is expensive!! Hope it isnt.
