For some people that read my rants, I have moved back with my folks.

Now the problem is that I have my expensive (AU$1500) sound system that I will need to put into store some where in the house.

I have currently back them up into Sealable Plastic Storage containters. And I do have the option of using works plastic wrap for these storage container.

Now i have the following choices for storage....

IN THE ROOF OF THE HOUSE - problem where is that in summer temperaters can exceed 40c .

UNDER THE HOUSE THE HOUSE - I will not have any problems with vermin there. But in damp.

Personally i would like to store it some one in side the house, but I don't see any space opening up soon.

Please advise.

A bit of a hard choice

I choose the roof as long as they will not get much light at all

If the only 2 choices are a damp versus hot spot-for electronics,
as long as its not DIRECT sunlight and it will not exceed the
manufacturers temp specs, go for the hot spot.

If this is going to be for a year or more I wouldnt wrap any
electronics in any thing that will breakdown over time. I would
wrap the components ie: receiver, amps etc in bubble wrap
completely and place them in boxes filled w/ peanuts and some
silica packets to absorb any moisture. Have the components sit
completely surrounded by peanuts(peanuts on the bottom, top
sides w/ the item in the middle).

Pack the box like they did from the manufacturer, there packed
for months of storage. I would check often to make sure everybody
is doing good and no critters are getting in any of the boxes. Use
the strong box tape and seal every seam-leave a few small seams
for a little breathing room.

I had to do the same thing for a $3000 system and $5000 worth
of guitar gear I just simply couldnt take with me at the time and
had to put it in storage-and I worried about it every day for a few
years till I had a house to put it in.

I had my brother use my speakers, they are a different story. If
you dont have room for them, I would trust someone to use them
as a second set of spkrs and be willing to replace them later. I dont
think the cones on speakers will handle long periods of fluxuating
temps you will have in the attic.

The advantage with the damp area is that I can put Plastic Wrap around the storage container itself in order to keep things dry.

Like putting it in the roof will be okay for winter time (now), but I do worry about the summer, extreme heat and electronics.

If I can clear a path to my closet in my bed room (currently a mess as I have been unpacking all day), I think I might be able to store them there.

Although I did discover that my parent's wine collection as been aging there. I am half tempted to tell them to store that under the house, and not my stereo.

The plastic wrap that i am using is going to be for over the actually plastic containters. It's a bit of over kill, but I do not want water getting in.

As for the packaging, I am using scrunched up newspaper.

For the time being, I am storing it in the roof. After all, it winter, so it should be safe.

In the mean time, I am going to hope that we can clear a good deal of the front from so I can once again have my house theatue set up back in it's former glory before summer hits.

Regardless of where you put your stuff, just remember everything
can be replaced including A**hole roommates and electronics.

Drink the wine, use the space. ^_^

How is your basement damp? Does water collect on the floor (Just put the boxes on raisers) or is the air just bad?
