Programming an electric actuator

I really need some help in figuring out how to program an electric actuator to extend out to different lengths. Also would like to be able to trigger the action with a tablet. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I just dont where to start.

Program it with what? What are you using to control it atm?

Probably a raspberry pi. I used to do a little programming but that was 15 years ago. Need an idea of how to write the program.

But depending on what power your actuator needs, you might not be able to run it direct from the pi

12v actuator. I was going to use a switch triggered by the raspberry pi. 12v from battery to the switch. 12v from the switch. Then wire the pi to turn the switch.

Yup a relay will work fine, sounds like you've got all the info you need to get started you can use the exact same circuit in the link I posted above, just sub the LED/resistor with your actuator
