I'm repairing a power cable(fa65ns0-00) for someone and was wonder if i could damage the computer if the transformer inside still works

Last time I fixed a Dell power brick (on the DC side of the cable, it was chewed and had shorted. When I fixed the area, it came up on the computer as "power adapter not supported". So, I guess something probably fried in the brick, but it didn't harm the computer. It wouldn't charge the battery, but would run off AC.
