Potentially the longest thread in history...

Playing on the PS5 was so annoying, I had to keep switching between slow quality during world scenes and performance during hard battles. I almost didn't finish it because it was such a chore. Especially during all the stupid forced minigames. These remake games definitely demand being on PC because the target framerate and LoD is too much for consoles to actually give a proper enjoyable experience. Looking back I can definitely say without a doubt that if it wasn't for nostalgia overload I never would have played Remake on the PS4 Pro when it launched (even with an SSD).
Playing Rebirth on PC I found Gongaga and Cosmo Canyon traversal isn't so hard because I can actually SEE and zooming in on the map to find my way isn't blurry. Mods definitely help greatly too, as with the Directstorage update it makes loading between areas almost instant so fast travel isn't a chore to get around, and almost completely removed the UE stuttering from the game. If I fail a minigame I can restart it in an instant and try again rather than waiting for it to reload, same for the challenge battles. I skipped so much on PS5 that I was able to beat it in like 65 hours just to complete it and justify the launch purchase. Now I'm 80 hours in and barely in Cosmo Canyon going through completing everything that I can to "plat" it. Doing the same for Remake/Integrade which I'm about halfway done with. If I wasn't a collector I'd honestly sell my PS5 cheap to a friend.
I did the same thing swapping to the high framerate mode for a few of the minigames on my first playthrough.

I've really enjoyed both of the FFVII Remake titles quite a bit, despite a few annoying minigames in each. The hard mode combat is probably the most fun I've had in a Final Fantasy game in an very long time. I've "platted" Remake on both PlayStation & Steam, probably going to at least do the same for one of the Rebirth versions.

I did boot up the steam version on my new living room PC with a 9800X3D/5080 and it was running really rough, lots of stuttering for some reason. The other games I've tried with the new system run fine so I'll have to dig in a bit further or wait for a possible update... I seem to remember Remake not running super great on PC at launch as well.

The only thing I got out og ANY of that is that you may really like Dark souls, all 3 of them. Or Shadows Die Twice.

But its worth searching the internet for any of your older games remade or remastered. A lot of different companies and websites are fantastic at that now!

You gotta grab mods to get rid of the stuttering, use vsync, and don't use any upscaling. Their updates haven't fixed it at all.

And of course in addition to that disable as many services as you can, set page file to static 1512 and can probably even go to that games forums for specific file/optimizations in the game folder itself.

I haven't used a pagefile in over a decade, or disabled services en masse since the Vista days. In the case of this particular game the mods are INI modifications.

Yes, I don't think it's needed now unless you use legacy or retro programs from windows 7 or earlier. I have yet to experiment myself with completely turning it off. Perhaps next " Nuke it from Orbit " Phase!..

Most of what I play these days happens to be retro. Depending on the title I may or may not just play it on one of my retro boxes.

NIce nice. I am actually just reinstalling Wolfenstien 2009, Reutn to Castle Wolfstein ( 2001) and Descent 3. Might look into some emulators for Glider pro, Myst and Simcity 2000 ( 2002) ..
