25mph winds from the blast from 2am till around midnight (all day Sunday), went to sleep and it was 25F, woke up and it's 21F. Haven't turned the heat on all winter and don't plan to. I fired up Luxmark GPU stress on my PC, wife's PC, and my personal server. Less wattage than a space heater and rose the house 6 degrees in 2 hours so far. (62 to 68).
Last Monday my toddler had surgery and it happened to be scheduled the same week the wife and I took off for the holiday season. I was bored and removed my 14900k and put my old 10900x in to see 4k performance difference with a 4090. In some titles there is an obvious CPU bottleneck, in other heavy hitters like Black Myth and Silent Hill (UE5 games with RT) there's no difference. But the bottleneck difference is around 10fps, 20 on one title that normally gets over 100fps. Kinda crazy considering it's a 6 year old CPU but still technically Skylake which is 10 years old. The funny thing is, I have a Gen 5 SSD on a Gen 3 M.2 port, but the IOPS are still the same so day to day feels the same too.
The absolute biggest difference is this thing sitting at 122W idle on the desktop as opposed to the 20W of the 14900k. It's funny how the "Covid enthusiasts" argue over 2 or 3% difference in titles between AMD and Intel, and power consumption when we were rocking 300-400W CPUs 5-10 years ago. We didn't even bat an eye at it, delid and liquid metal, clock to bejesus and pray.
