PLEX Problem?

I have recently purchased PLEX, & my problem is that I don't know how to get Plex to stop scanning my External HDD Drive every time I use the audio function or just turn on Plex Media Server, please help my Drive is suffering.

Turn off media auto scan in settings.

Ensure that Plex Media Server is installed, and that it is the most recent version. Check to see if Plex Media Server is truly operating. Check to see if your Server is displayed under Devices. Turn off any VPNs on your router or computer.
