Please please help

I want to do system restore to my pc. You know take it back to an earlier date. No matter what date I pick, when it's done going through the process it says your computer was unable to restore to this date. I tried a ton of different dates to no success. How can I fix this? Thanks

Back up all your data.
When the Os isn't able to do a restore, it's a bad sign...

When it comes to a computer. I'm an idiot. I have a lot of things on my computer videos, music, pictures. and other things. I assume you mean put everything on discs. But I don't know how. After I do manage to back things up then what would my next step be? Thanks
