I've got a 2.7 GHz Northwood P4 right now, and was wondering if there are any other processors I could upgrade to without having to replace my motherboard or my DDR RAM. Would Pentium D work?

im guessin its a 478, and no u cant have Pentium D with out gettin a 775 motherboard plus most 775 motherboards r DDR2 now, soo u will have 2 get new memory

I'm now sure about which socket I've got. Is there a way I can make sure without having to open up my computer?

The mainboard section has information on the manufacturer, the model, chipset, southbridge, sensor, bios, and graphic interface. There's nothing about CPU sockets there.

edit: I'll try googling for my motherboard's model.

Under the 'CPU' tab, read the third line. It should be called 'Package', and that'll tell you what socket it is
