Hey guys I have a Gigabyte GA-8N-SLI Mobo, it says it doesn't support PCI-E 2.0 but can I buy a 2.0 card and use it on the standard pci-e slot? will i get the same performance? Its hard finding a regular pci-e card. I edit videos and play the usual steam games, btw.

i dont belive that you can get the same performance
i wouldnt be surprised to see that you could use it
but i doubt that it would be optimized for the performance

The only motherboards that support PCIe 2.0 are ones with the newer nvidia chipsets (x58 might, as well). There's still no real performance gains from 2.0 yet.

i want to get a 9800 series but on newegg they dont have it for standard pci. should i go for the pci 2.0

Performance is pretty identical. Don't let it be the deciding factor when buying motherboards.

no one has really answered his question for sure
i honestly dont know

so the question is
can a 2.0 PCI-E be used in a 1.0 slot?

Yes, you can use a PCIe 2.0 video card in a PCIe x16 slot. They are backwards compatible. The performance differences are negligible and nothing you'll really notice.
