Overclocking i7 2700k

I'm not sure how long it's been since I've overclocked my computer but I'm looking to do it to my new set up.


I have an unlocked i7 2700k on a gigabyte z68 motherboard with an 850w PSU and DDR3 1600 RAM.

I'm thinking of just bumping up the multiplier since it's unlocked but wanted to do a sanity check. I remember on my old C2D (1st gen.) there were things I needed to disable in BIOS and something about RAM.

So I need the basics again. What do I have to watch for, and what must be disabled and how does the RAM speed work with all of this?

To specify, I don't want to overclock my RAM. I just remember back in my C2D days that the CPU and RAM were tied together so if I can ignore that then that's all the better
