Outrage over Obama's Stimulus "Scheme". . .

Why is everyone scared of socialism? There has always been a hint of it in the US. Welfare? Sound familiar. Social Security? Socialism is not necessarily a bad thing. I think the best thing for the US right now may be to plan how to get out of a depression rather than a recession. The stimulus package was a risky call, and Obama is falling short of my expectations. Maybe it was just oratory. However, I do hope that it will get better after it gets worse like he is saying. More tension on the country and on the government will do nothing but distract everyone from their goals. I don't have all the details on this mortgage thing, but I definitely don't like the sounds of it. Yes, I said that socialism may not be a bad thing, but forcing others to pay the neighbor's mortgages isn't cool (if this is what the fuss is all about). If the US goes into a depression, which is likely, then the rest of the world will probably follow (the US has a 25% stake in the world's imports), with the exception of countries able to self-sustain (in this case my home country would definitely have an edge).

Well everyone as far as I am concerned as long as we are paying taxes we have no idea where the money is going anyways....Everyone is saying how it is messed up that we are paying someone else' mortgage but if that isn't were the money is going who knows where the heck it is going...If we aren't helping out our fellow Americans we are dumping money on some dumb ass research that is unnecessary or even giving more to other countries...

Not all of the people losing there homes can avoid it, I mean yea there is some lazy ass people sitting back and collecting the money but there always has been AKA the people on welfare who don't look for a job and have 20 kids in order to get bigger checks and free health care and free homes... But that is not the total case here since we have the highest unemployment rate in decades if not ever and in December alone Americans lost 500,000 jobs....Obviously those people can't afford their houses now but had no problem doing it when they were employed.... My in laws who both have been at the same company for 35 years for my mother and law and 40 years for my father in law were just recently told that they are closing down the company and they are out of jobs....Now when you have worked at a job for 40 years you really don't know much else....These are not the only 2 like this in our country so not all of these people we are helping are some lowlife people that don't really need or deserve this help....

Now I'm not saying that this is all right and the only option there is but I am all for paying a few extra bucks in taxes to help out an AMERICAN not some person in Ethiopia that has no food... I'm sorry but it is time for our country to focus on our problems and let these other countries we are dumping food and supplies to fend for themselves for a change...

And to be quite honest most of us are going to see tax cuts since the middle class was awarded tax reliefs in this bill so most of us and our families aren't even the ones footing the bill for this it is corporate America that has all the money and misusing there funds....

I actually thought he would be good for America, early signs not so good.

People should've looked beneath the surface.

This reason, is precisely why the McCain sticker is staying right where it is on my Jeep's back window. Once things get royally screwed over, and I'm sure they will, I'll add "I told ya so".

This man scares me, plain and simple, people not realizing the socialism in this and thinking 2 minutes in front of their damn face are complete and utter ignorant morons. (no, this isn't directed at you t-man)

Electing Obama, sure was a great move for social status of the US, and unfortunately that's all people seemed to care about in this election. They wanted change. They didn't give a rats ass about what kind of change, they just wanted it, and that really thoroughly pisses me off that people can't do their own goddamn research for the candidate. I'm not sure how many times I've watched videos online about people saying what they believed in, when really it was a McCain policy, but were voting Obama because he's democrat and black. Jesus christ, what has this country come to. I'm only 17, can't vote, it doesn't even effect me and I understand it more than a lot of people who voted. It was a mistake, and the mistakes will keep happening with this moron we now have as president. We are not in a good situation, Obama IS NOT what we needed.

*steps off of podium.

Bullzi what we need is a political genius of a Jefferson or Lincoln caliber. Obama is not that man. McCain is not that man. I think regardless of who was elected we'd be in the same shit.

Oh please, give me a break here. No presidency has ever been perfect. If we had indeed elected McCain, and you had originally supported Obama, you could of said the same thing at some point or another.

People should've looked beneath the surface.

Being from Australia not having a say and not really caring who won, I never looked too deep into either of the candidates.

Can I point out 2 things. (one has already been said)

1, it doesn't matter who is in charge, the damage has already been done, this has been a long time coming, perhaps you could argue that if someone different had been in charge, then things might be different, but now, the problem is here, there is nothing that has been done in the last four week that could have prevented this 'crisis' that's already started much before that.

2, No, this is not at all like socialism that you leaned about in school, and if you leaned that in school then it's quite likely that you were taught by someone from the complete opposite end of the political spectrum who taught you incorrectly perhaps because they didn't understand themselves.

this idea now that should you loose your job and not work, then that's ok, because the governess will pay your mortgage, the idea that if yu loose your job then it's fine, because the government will give you money.

well even in Stalins Russia at the height of his communist regieme people had to work. everyone worked and received a set wage, all teachers recieved the same wage, all engineers received the same wage, all government officials received the same wage, (not that the wages for jobs were different though). -so government official got paid more than teachers. but if you didn't work then you didn't get paid,

nobody came along and said, it'd OK comrade, you dn't have to work we'll pay your rent for you...

so no, it's not at all like socialism,
an saying so is pretty much playing godwins law. just with socialism instead of fascism.

I do agree that there should be unemployment benefits for people who have lost their job, and state housing for people who have lost their house, I just don't believe that those who don't work should be able to live as comfortably, or in as nicer surroundings as those who don't work.

if you don't work, you can't afford a nice house, so you don't get one, you get the absolute minimum basic, not get to stay in your nice house and have it all paid for by the people who are strong enough/lucky enough to be keeping their jobs.

Well, my friends stepdad was a construction worker, they have an older house in a small town, it's not too expensive, it's nothing fancy, but it's a house with enough room for the family. They got by, but recently, her stepdad lost his job, now, after filing taxes, they didnt have a penny left, and are coming on some hard times. Especially with her going to college next year. I don't think because he lost his job temporarily, that they should be forced to permanatly move out of their house. I think they should be given a certain amount of time to get a new job. The government shouldn't pay our expensises for us, but it should be a low interest loan if we want it maybe. Give back what we need when we can.

+1

If we had elected McCain what really would have been different folks? If we werent paying someones mortgage we would be dumping money in Iraq...Now what exactly could McCain have done any different here? Not pay peoples morgages and then what we have hundered of thousands of people on welfare or living on the streets? Either way you look at it there is NO right decision here. Since if you put all these people out of their homes where do they go, to their relatives homes? What about the people whose relatives are in the same boat, do we send em to the streets to be homeless so we can pay for em anyways? Do we turn our back to the homeless and let them then turn to crime in order to pay for their needs and then when they get arrested and go to jail we pay for them anyways? Guys there really isn't much of a choice here. It really isn't Obama's fault we are in this predicament, there is a lot of blame to be pushed here and its not all at the government. Maybe some people should try not blaming everyone else in the world for there friggen problems and look at themselves for a change here.

Either way both presidents aren't going to be perfect and I don't understand how everyone can bash obama he has been in office for 1 MONTH.....Did you people really expect the whole economic crisis to just go away overnight because we got a new president...Sorry folks but when a new president steps into office he doesn't get a clean slate...And for you McCain supporters if you really want to see how McCain woulda done in office go ahead and look at the things that him and our former president agree on and look at what McCain voted for and backed him on when in the senate....If you think McCain was the right man for the job why didn't we just let George bush just stay in office cuz they are basically one and the same.....

I agree here with Joga neither of these candidates were perfect and to be completely honest in this type of society and the way that these politicians run their whole careers we will never have a president that is worth a damn....Our system is so screwed up right now that its not going to change with 1 new president a lot of steps need to be taken in the right direction over a few presidential terms to set a good amount of stepping stones for other presidents to walk on....

People as a society also need to do everything in our power to help as well. If you don't like whats going on in politics you have the right to change it, how bout instead of only voting for your president have any of you actually gone to a local election for say a mayor of your town or city? Do any of you actually give a crap about the other candidates on the ballot other than the president because they play a big part in things too? Do any of you write letters to your representatives and congressmen expressing your views? If you answered NO to any or all of these questions you are just as bad as the next guy...The only way to really change anything is not to complain on a computer forum but to tell someone who really can do anything about it... The time you spent here reading these things and write a letter to your state rep and let them know how you feel. Get some of your friends to do the same and tell them if your voice isn't heard you won't re-elect them. Complaining does nothing ACTIONS people are what makes a difference.....

Food for thought...

You forgot that too many people are buying too much house and loosing their job. What they needed to have done is buy less house so they could still make payments if they lost a job.

People today are spending wayyyy too much.....
